MD Helicopters
Aerospace Design Intern
2016
Overview
MD Helicopters is a rotorcraft manufacturing company that produces both civil and military helicopters. My internship at MD gave me a vast experience in the aerospace industry as I was assigned work ranging in a multitude of engineering departments. I worked with the design, manufacturing, and stress analysis departments to perform work that other full-time employees would have been expected to do. Being exposed to these various departments gave me a broad scope of what is encompassed in a manufacturing company. However, I also gained in-depth knowledge on technical aspects: designing electro-mechanical systems, performing stress analysis on metals and composite materials, and resolving engineering service requests through root cause analysis.

(Image blurred for confidentiality)
At MD Helicopters, I designed metal brackets with appropriate fasteners and control panel layouts. I also designed the installations of avionics and antennas along with the routing between these electrical components. For my designs, I had to demonstrate structure reliability with stress analysis calculations and ensure that every component installed met Military or National Aerospace standards.
All Glass Cockpit

My efforts helped bring about the successful completion of FAA certification for the updated all-glass cockpit of the MD 369FF, MD 530F, and MD 600N.
This cockpit features:
-
Garmin G500[H] TXi Electronic Flight Instruments (EFIS) with Touchscreen GDU 700P PFD/MFD
-
