Wireless Lock and Key

Partner Project

2015

This electrical design project strengthened my understanding and skills of working with circuits, coding,  and wireless electronics. With the constant increase of mechanical designs integrating digital electronics, having a foundational understanding of electrical engineering is imperative for a mechanical engineer.

Goals:

  • Demonstrate basic function of the electrical components for a wireless key security system

  • Develop lock and key:

    • Key has 4 bit input code (2 LCD display numbers)

    • Lock indicates if code is correct (green LED) or incorrect (red LED)

    • Constant communication between lock and key

  • Implements:  Arduinos, RF transmitters, 7400 chips, and 7-segment displays
